The Story

Corduroy has long been a reliable fabric for colder spring days. With its velvet ribs and tufted texture, it guarantees warmth and comfort. But due to its retro popularity, it's also incredibly stylish. So, we suggest adding it to your wardrobe as soon as possible. The best way to start is by finishing off your layering with a premium Japanese jacket.

Meet Tanuki's Sazanami(漣)jacket, which means "waves that stand in fine ripples." This jacket is unique in many ways. It is based on a corduroy fabric that was popular in Japan in the 90s, which the brand found in their archives. Instead of simply reproducing it, they decided to experiment with it and added unique botanical dyes to this fluffy yet sturdy fabric. This jacket is pigment-dyed in an amazing mud brown.

Tanuki's experimentation with natural dyes has been hugely successful in recent years, so they are happy to apply it to new fabrics.

To add to its premium quality, this jacket is fully lined with made-in-Japan Ventile fabric, which makes it both windproof and water-resistant. Additionally, it boasts military-grade urea buttons and custom-made mil-spec ribs.

In terms of the cut, this is a contemporary bomber jacket. It is slightly boxy with dropped shoulders, inlays below the shoulders for additional mobility, and a shawl collar. It also has two handwarmer pockets and one zipped inner pocket.

The Sazanami jacket combines our love for ancient dyes and contemporary post-heritage menswear.

The Tanuki brand was established in 2016 in Okayama Prefecture. It comprises a small group of great artisans who are passionate about denim and boast more than 30 years' experience in other brands in the industry. If there is something that characterizes Tanuki garments in addition to its modern cuts, it is the quality and variety of its fabrics, with prime importance given to the best cottons, natural indigo and the application of different types of tension on the shuttle looms when producing the fabrics.
